Lerkendal Stadion
Lerkendal Stadium is Norway’s third largest football stadium, and is located in Trondheim. It has a capacity of around 21,000 spectators and is the home ground of the football club Rosenborg Ballklub (RBK). The stadium is known to be one of the most iconic in Norwegian football, and is a key venue for both national and international matches.
Brief History
Lerkendal Stadium was opened in 1947, but has undergone several upgrades and modernizations since then. The original pitch was made of gravel, but in 1962 it was converted to grass. The biggest upgrades came in the 1990s and 2000s when Rosenborg had great success in both national and European tournaments, which led to the need for a modern stadium with higher capacity. This is also where Rosenborg have played many of their memorable matches, especially in the UEFA Champions League.
Ownership and Management
Lerkendal Stadion is owned by Lerkendal Stadion AS, a company wholly owned by Rosenborg Ballklub. The company is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the stadium, as well as ensuring that it is a modern and safe arena for both players and spectators. RBK thus has full control over the stadium’s use and development, making it an important part of the club’s infrastructure.
In addition to football matches, Lerkendal is also used for concerts and other major events, making it an important arena in Trondheim’s cultural life.
